Hell yeah! All of a sudden the PC-Platform gets two really appealing Racing Games in a Row. "Race Driver: Grid" and "Burnout: Paradise". If it´s the truth about GT 5 also being released for the PC, I am one happy Gamer!
I think nowadays there are too much Genres wich were born on the PC but died somEwhere along the recent evolution or jst didn´t get enough attention.
For example really good Arcade/Simulation Racing-Games or Sci-Fi Action-games. There´s just not enough, or just crap stuff released nowadays (Okay the whole SimBin things are preatty neat actually. But those are hardcore simulation games).
See the Need for Speed Series.
The best Need for Speed Title to date is for me "NFS Porsche Unleashed". Okay, the first "NFS Underground" wasn´that bad too. It does´nt even come close to Porsche but has been a pretty nice Title. The only other little spark in the recent history of this series has been "NFS Most Wanted". Every other "update" has ben total crap. Take "NFS Carbon" or "NFS Pro Street" for example.
Or ake the Sci-Fi Figher Acion for example. The last big thing has been Freelancer from MS.
OK "Darkstar One" hasn´t been that bad either but couldn´t quite catch up to Freelancer. Aaaaah good ol`times. Anyone remember the old Wing Commander titles? :) These are classic games!
I´m really looking forward to the PC Version of Burnout: Paradise as by now only the first Burnout title is available fo the PC. And with all the online and community features built in it should turn out very well :)
Tetsuo, I am totally on your side regarding Space Action games, I still prefer Freelancer to all other "Space Sims" since (and I still have it installed, with zillions of fan mod plugins). Personally, I like NfS Underground better than NfS Porsche Unleashed, but I am not racing expert. I know that I don't like ProStreet too much, though.
I never liked Freelancer, but Freespace II with an FF-Stick and 5.1 in a dark room is awesome.
Maybe I should give Freelancer a chance again .)
I agree with Tetsuo, Porsche (Part 5) was the best title in the series, but I admit that there is a lot of sentiment involved here. But unlocking history from 1950 to 2000 in Career Mode was just awesome, and there was so much information about each car, they never put that much detail into any NFS after that. And the Factory Driver mode was simple the most awesome Mode I ever found in a racing game.
Porsche was cool indeed. Made me want a Porsche for the whole last year. Maybe I should play it again. Then I have more motivation for my lectures .)
