Bioware/EA: Retreat from Security MeasuresBioware/EA: Retreat from Security Measures

Bioware and EA have done a strategic withdrawal from the harsh privacy preventing measures they announced a few days ago, with which the authenticity of the game would have been checked every ten days over the internet, meaning that if you don't have access to the internet regularly and you wanted to play it without internet access after having had a break for two weeks you couldn't do it because your copy of the game would be automatically blocked till you have access to the internet again. This seems to have caused an uproar, because now Jay Watamaniuk from Bioware suddenly lets the disappointed fans in the Mass Effect forum know that BioWare has always listened very closely to its fans and we made this decision to ensure we are delivering the best possible experience to them. To all the fans including our many friends in the armed services and internationally who expressed concerns that they would not be able re-authenticate [sic!] as often as required, EA and BioWare want you to know that your feedback is important to us. Yes, that's right. We all apparently have to say a big "Thank you" to the armed forces, who are obviously looking forward to Mass Effect and did not really agree with the new security measures, given that their access to the internet and their free-time probably wouldn't allow to play the game and let it check the authenticity every ten days. This is why Bioware now decided to take a step back and to only let the re-authentication process happen every time that someone playing the game wants to download new game content. Same goes for EA, who announced that the changes made to the protection of Mass Effect will also apply for Spore. The protection of both games will however still only allow users to authenticate each game on three computers. But you don't need the disc in the drive to play or authenticate the game, which is actually a pretty comfortable thing. All in all, it's good to see that publishers really seem to listen to their customers sometimes.

Now that I can live with - and I guess by the time that I'd be installing it on my fourth new computer, they'll have either removed the limit or there'll be other measures available, thanks to the internet. ;)
Come and rise, you masses of gamers, you can get anything you want!
:)
Nah, it's good that they do this.
I am in GB until 31st of may, I hope that they don't postpone it again.
now the release date on amazon is 6.6. :(
Hi Knurrunkulus: Made it First News +20 EXP. And my comment on the news itself: I really like it when customers "fight" against measures that make no sense, and I like it even more when a company reacts to that in a sensible way.
EA is listening to its customers? The “New EA” scares me…
EA wants to have a good image to sell more stuff. Blizzard had such a good image that people like me and my friends bought their games without checking the reviews before.
The Quality of the Games is not the problem. I buy every Madden Game and Sims Add-on without a Review.
But EA killed so many Companies and their Games. Bullfrog and Origins are no more, Westwood only doing C&C and a Sim City without Maxis…
Bioware could end like the same: “Mass Effect” and “Star Wars RPGs” until EA got their Money back and then closing it in favor for its newest purchase.
By now I can’t imagine how EA can bring back my trust.
Well, their sequels, mostly, are on a high quality level, although not very innovative. I guess EA is giving the majority of consumers what they want... Also, they have published (not designed) Crysis, they'll publish Spore, so sometimes you'll actually get new franchises from EA.
“Need for Speed: ProSreet” and “Sim City Societies” taught me that I don’t want to see an innovative EA Sequel and that the “New EA” is strange.
OK, EA brought and will brings us “The Sims”, “Spore”, “Crysis” and “BattleForge”. So, 4 Points for EA. But on the other hand we have: “Wing Commander”, “Privateer”, “Dungeon Keeper”, “Ultima”, “Populous”, Theme Park/Hospital”, “Syndicate”, “Lands of Lore”. Eye of the Beholder”…

very ironic that it is made with the SIMS :)
I sincerely hope that Bioware don't end like this. Apart from "Das schwarze Auge: Drakensang" I can' think of any game right now that I am looking more forward to in terms of the genre RPG than "Dragon Age", currently in development.
How about Fallout 3 ? That's the game (or RPG) I'm looking forward to.
I really fear that it will be like Oblivion - shiny, but boring.
Beside that we have "RPB", the new game of Piranha Bytes.
This morning, there were only bad marks on amazon.co.uk
And that did not look at all.
ordered it today, btw...
and a nice picture :)
