Team Fortress 2: Big Content Pack ReleasedTeam Fortress 2: Big Content Pack Released

Everybody who is not busy with Niko Bellic at the moment and still doesn't want to spend the next weekend in boredom doesn't have to worry anymore, because from this day on Valve's "Team Fortress 2" is heading for new shores. GamersGlobal first wrote about it in late January. Valve announced some large-scale add-ons for the game back then, and the first step to those has now been taken. First off, there is a new mode (Payload) implemented, in which the blue team has to manoeuvre a bomb along some railroad tracks through a trio of red bases to win the game. When people are next to the bomb truck it will steadily move forward (the more people the faster) but when there is no player standing near it anymore it will slowly begin rolling back on the tracks. Valve themselves describe the new mode as follows: For long-time Team Fortress fans it should evoke feelings of both Dustbowl, in terms of layout and team goals, and Hunted, as it has a central objective that forces the battlefield to move through the map dynamically. For now there is only one map (Gold Rush) available, but this is bound to change during the next months. And it is not the only progress that Team Fortress 2 has made since the content pack was released this morning. Especially the medics have a whole lot of new work to do. 36 different achievements were implemented for this class, ranging from "Bedside Manner" (where you have to heal a teammate while he is achieving an achievement on his own) over "Quadruple Bypass" (where you have to heal a teammate who is taking fire from 4 enemies at once) and "Hypocritical Oath" (making you kill an enemy spy that you were still healing some seconds before) up to "Placebo Effect" (which has you killing 5 enemies in a single life with the Uber-Charge ready but not deploying it). If you are wondering what on earth you should try to do all this for, then the answer to this is only one sentence away. You can gain three new abilities with thoses achievements, the first one unlocking after 12 completed achievements, the second one after 24, the third one if you have completed the whole list. The first unlockable new item is the "Blutsauger", which comes to you in the form of a new syringe and saps health from the enemies you hit; but on the downside you won't be able to score critical hits. With 24 unlocked achievements comes "The Kritzkrieg", a medigun which doesn't use its Ubercharge for invulnerability, but for constant critical hits. And then, at the end of the road, there is "The Ubersaw" waiting for you. For the determined medic that has earned all 36 of the new achievements, they will find themselves the proud owner of “The Ubersaw” which will take damage dealt through melee attacks and convert it directly to Ubercharge. Four hits with this new weapon will fully charge whatever medigun the Medic has equipped. It is important to note that those are alternatives for the default arsenal of the class, you still won't be able to equip more than the default weapon number. But still, at first this content upgrade for the medic might make the game a bit more unbalanced then it might have been before. But Valve already promises to quickly add unique items and achievements for the other classes as well, which should ultimately lead to a massive number of new strategies that players of the game are confronted with. Sidenote: Only hours after the start of the content pack a console code has been found with which you can apparently unlock all achievements of the medic instantly. The TF2-Community is now wondering if Valve let this console code in the game by mistake or if they deliberately put it there. Anyway: Now Valve definitely knows about it and word goes that they would also have the possibility to reset this in some way. Time will tell. In the meantime you have to decide for yourself if you want to earn your items or if you'd rather go the easy way. But what does this all have to do with your next weekend, as I pointed out in the first paragraph? I can tell you. From May 2-May 4 you can test the whole game, with all the new content unlocked, for free. So if you're not yet sure if "Team Fortress 2" is the right game for you, then this might just be the very moment to finally try it out. And if you're already playing it since some time, well: then you have probably already stopped reading two paragraphs ago anyway, logged into your account and started earning this massive list of achievements now available for you. You own both: GTA IV and Team Fortress 2? Well: Sleep is overrated anyway, isn't it?
