GTA IV: Official Gamerscore Achievement ListGTA IV: Official Gamerscore Achievement List
Last updated 2 weeks, 1 day ago.
One of the reasons why I'm constantly thinking about buying a Xbox 360 is the highly addictive gamerscore. Another reason for it is the game that everybody's getting crazy about recently: "GTA IV". And now both these reasons have become one, because the official achievements list for "GTA IV" has just been made known to the public. There will be 50 tasks with which you can increase your gamerscore when the game hits the shelves on April 29th, summing up to 1000 gamer points. Some of those tasks are really quite generic and you can find them in almost every game. Like completing the first mission: uh, what a challenge. But then there are also some really tricky and funny ones, like having to outrun the police on foot with a 4 star wanted level, surviving for 5 minutes with a 6 star wanted level, successfully dating a girl to be invited to her house, flying underneath the main bridges in the game that cross water with a helicopter, meet all random characters (like, what, everybody in the city? how on earth ...?) and last but not least killing a developer from Rockstar in a ranked multiplayer match. That could be a hard one. Which should be enough to keep the game interesting for a while, although the chances are that it won't get boring for a very long time even without the gamerscore, considering that IGN gave the game a 10/10 in the very first online review of the game; which makes it the best game on their radar since "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" and "Soul Calibur". At last: GamersGlobal is also joining the hype for "GTA IV". It just had to happen.

I had to smile when I read that the date-achievement is called "warm coffee" :-)
And I agree, the Gamerscore is a great (and simple) way to bind people to a game, so they keep playing even after they are through the main story. We should have something similar for the PC as well, not only would it serve a purpose by making games last longer, since you would have to be online for that, it could also reduce piracy.
Another thing, I too am constantly battling with the idea of buying a 360, it doesn't even cost much, I just can't bring myself to pick up such a controller after all that time, I'm so much more comfortable with a mouse, and it would also fell as if I were abandoning my PC as a gaming platform (as so many do these days).
Yes, it would be really good if we had something like that for the PC as well. Right now, I really can't motivate myself to complete the "Little Rocket Man"-achievement in Half-Life 2: Episode 2, because I wouldn't get any score for that. On the XBox 360 I would have a reason to actually shoot the garden gnome into space: gamerscore points. Delicious, addictive gamerscore points.
I would never abandon my PC as a gaming platform (although I would and will abandon my laptop that really only gets on my nerves since a very long time by now, but a new desktop-pc will follow in his footsteps) because I just feel way too comfortable with the mouse and everything that a PC stands for. But as a nice little addition, a XBox 360 would really be nice. Especially because I hope that Rare will find back to the glory of their olden days and release an absolutely gorgeous game with "Banjo-Threeie", also because of "The Darkness" and yes, I have to admit that, "GTA IV" would also be well worth a buy. As well as games like "Blue Dragon".
But then again: Where, in the name of all that is holy, do I get all this money from? ;)
Microsoft has introduced gamerscores and achievements for the PC, but only a few games support it... so far.
oh I see, didn't know that, I wouldn't even know where to sign up for something like that. Not a single game I played mentioned something like that. Maybe when the "Games for Windows" initiative will take off, we will see more of this.
Exactly: Games for Windows Live
P.S. Great Article, thanks for the news, I missed that.
here's a picture if you want one.
I just watched the GTA IV Review at Gametrailers.com and I have to say: OMG, the joy was nearly to much to handle, it's everything I wanted...and then some!
I'm currently only inches away from ordering a 360 right this second.
Devil: "Do it. Do it. You know you want it."
Angel: "No, don't listen to him. You don't even have the time to play it. And they will announce the game for PC anyway."
Devil: "Hell no, they won't. They'll never do that. And you know it. And anyway, Angel always moans about GTA."
Angel: "I used to you, because of the violence and stuff, but hey ... this one looks really nice."
Devil: "What?"
Angel: "Order it!"
Devil: "You're not supposed to do that. You are my counterpart. Come on, stick to your role."
Angel: "But I can't. This game kicks ass."
Devil: "Can someone please pinch me? Did you really just say that?"
Angel: "Yes. WHAT UP, STARKILLER. HAVE YOU STILL NOT ORDERED THE GAME AND THE XBOX 360, FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE?"
So, Starkiller, based on the little story above: It seems to be up to you. ;)
damn you Knurrunkulus...I can't...
on the other Hand I could....no no and no, ahhhh they better announce it soon for the PC or I'll loose my sanity.
I'm now one step closer to the dark side of console-gaming, my 24'' LCD died yesterday and I had to buy a new one, and this new 28'' LCD has an HDMI Port, so I could plug a console in there if I wanted to...Oh boy, I can fell my resistance crumbling...
I hate achivements like "beat a rockstar dev". I would rate a game down because of such a shit. Achievments should be game specific not about luck. How lucky must one be to even meet a rockstar dev online and then beat him in that game.
I like hard achivments, took me hours to complete the mile high club in call of duty 4 but at least i knew i would get all the 1000 points together if i really try hard.
The other day i bought rainbow six vegas 2 and there is an achivement where you have to own that piece of shit cam for the 360. WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING. Am I to buy that piece of crap, just too get my 1000 points. I rather eat the rotten asshole of a roadkilled skunk and down it with beer. SHITBALLS!
What's the point? You don't HAVE to buy the cam, but when you have it then this gamerscore can be a nice little extra. After all, it's only a bonus to the game. It's not what you really play the game for in particular and you don't need it to have fun with the game. It' just an extra.
Also, I could imagine that Rockstar do it the same way as it was done with the achievements in "Guitar Hero 3". Which means that the achievement becomes viral and once some people have actually achieved to beat a developer, they themselves can be shot down to earn the gamerscore as well.
But I am only taking wild guesses here. And I still don't understand your anger.
Because it says Gamerscore and not Buyer-score or Luck-Score. It's as easy as that. It's an achievment you get if you are able to deliver a certain skill at a game. And as easy as that i like to finish my games, and im counting the achivments in.
So i did that with Assassins Creed, I did it with COD4 and I even did it with Hexic and it is always satisfying to me if i finaly reach that goal. But it is highly frustating if you want to do it but you can't because of silly achievments.
And it's a pain in the ass because i'm a little autistic in some ways and it bothers me if there is a not completed game in my list.
ARGH! NAGAGAGAGAGA!
I totally agree with your argument. Maybe they should have stuff like the dev beating or the cam thing as bonus points, which can substitute for other achievements, but cannot bring you over the maximum gamerscore for that game.
Very good news, many interesting links. Made it First News, +20 EXP.
