"Spore Creature Creator" Shipping In June"Spore Creature Creator" Shipping In June

Will Wright's new game "Spore" is definitely one of the most highly anticipated, innovative and promising games of this year. And it is set to ship in September. But you won't have to wait that long if you're desperate to use one of the main features of the game, which is: creating mind-bending creatures. It was now announced by Electronic Arts that on June 17 the "Spore Creature Creator" is set to launch, which will already allow you to start playing with all the hundreds and thousands of different body parts that will also be available in the full version of the game. The program will be compatible with the full version in September, so that, once the full game has launched, you can directly import the creatures you already created since June into the game and populate your little universe with them. But not only your universe. A feature of the "Spore Creature Creator" is called "pollinated content", which means that the full game will also automatically take your creatures and populate the worlds of other single-players. Will Wright explains this step with the following words: "The amazing creations players design this summer will help populate the game universe we all enter when Spore ships this September, so in a sense, the Spore Creature Creator is the birth of Spore." This is definitely a very clever choice to make, because the creational aspect is without any doubt "Spore"'s biggest trademark and the one thing that many people already love the game for. The "Spore Creature Creator" will also feature interoperability with YouTube, so that players can instantly share videos of their creatures with the rest of the world and make them want to play the game as well. "Spore" goes viral marketing, so to say. There will be a free demo of the "Spore Creature Creator", in which you can use 25% all of the body parts included in the game. If you buy the retail version, which will be at sale for $10 in the U.S, this will give you complete access to the remaining 75%. When "Spore" then finally ships, its world will already be populated. By your own kin.

This move is so clever in so many ways; "fast forwarding" the population of the game, viral marketing, involving the gamers. Good marketing.
Maxis had done the same with "Sims" and "Sims2"
I didn't know that. How did they do this? What aspect of "The Sims" was suitable to be released in advance? Building some houses and then importing them into the full game once it had been released? That wouldn't seem as useful to me as the "Creature Creator".
Before the release of “Sims2” Maxis came up with the “Sims Body Shop” there you could create your Sims and later import them into the game. For “Sims1” there was a little program that allowed creating Wallpapers and Floor tile.
Okay, but I don't know if one can really compare that with the "Spore Creature Creator". I think that this program has a much bigger scope and right to exist than the appetizers that were developed for the "Sims"-Franchise.
that's really cool, although I wondered if the time between the releases is too long. 3 months later, the creator will be "old" and not that interesting. And let's hope they don't want to keep that schedule at any cost, I don't want to see any more semi-finished games :(
well written btw!
Interesting News, +10 EXP.
