DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL 3 were introduced at this years SIGGRAPH, an annual conference on computer graphics. The Inquirer spilled the beans on the updated DirectX, causing kind of a exerted scandal on several gaming news sites which focus their reporting on the fact, that DirectX 10 graphic cards won't support all 10.1 features. Even though The Inquirer points out, that 10.1 adds virtually nothing to an API that isn't utilized by a severe number of game developers as of now anyway. Just recently John Carmack of id Software said in an interview with tech.co.uk,
In related news, OpenGL 3 has been announced, while the final specification can be publicly available as soon as the end of September.
