Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods confirmedGothic 3: Forsaken Gods confirmed

Austrian game publisher JoWood has confirmed that there will be an official add-on for its very successful (at least in German speaking countries) 3D-RPG Gothic 3. While this may sound not too surprising, it actually is, considering the fact that the original development team of the Gothic series, Piranha Bytes, had a major clash with Jowood, claiming that they were forced to release the product prematurely. Piranha Bytes will release their unofficial successor for Munich based worldwide publisher KochMedia, under their premium label SilverStyle. Because of the breaking up, JoWood was not able to correct the vast numbers of bugs in the game for several months, even allowing (and asking) the fan community to do patches on its own, giving fan teams the neccessary source code information. As a side note, according to a news from March 11 on the fansite World of Gothic.com (which is run by Piranha Bytes), Piranha Bytes and JoWood have settled their differences. According to JoWood, Forsaken Gods will answer open questions in the main game and will act as a transition to the fourth part of the series, which has been under development at Spellbound studios since Fall 2007. The add-on will once more see the player saving the fantasy world, the release is planned for Q4 2008.

I might not find it surprising that an add-on will be released, but I was very surprised that you called Gothic3 very successful. I bought the Collectors Edition in great anticipation at that time, but I was very disappointed with all the problems the game had. Maybe I'm too impatient or maybe too unforgiving, but I never touched the Game again after the first painful 10 hours.
Maybe they were successful in the end when we talk about money, but I can't believe the same when we talk about customer satisfaction.
It was successful in terms of money, ratings and also how well the fans liked it. I cannot really judge how successful Gothic 3 is as a game: The bugs I encountered when I began playing it roughly 4 weeks after its release convinced me to put it down again after only a couple of hours. I have not picked it up again since then. I played Gothic and Gothic 2 for weeks...
Well, that's exactly the basis I judge the game on, the bugs were intolerable.
