NCsoft Still Fighting Unauthorized Servers

United States —

NCsoft European office is taking action against those running unauthorized servers for NCsoft's games, such as Lineage II, Guild Wars and City of Heroes. NCsoft claims that "This action comes as a direct response to the rise of illegal online game servers throughout Eastern Europe, particularly in Greece and Russia where NCsoft’s fantasy-based online role playing game, Lineage II, is extremely popular."

NCsoft points out that in 2006 it shut down a US-based unauthorized Lineage II server run by L2Extreme.com. Last year it started a lawsuit against Internet Cafe business e-Global that led to four of e-Global's cafes being raided. More recently, several of e-Global's executives have been named as defendants in both criminal and civil cases to NCsoft's continuing efforts to punish those who ran unauthorized servers.

Never really understood that, if you want to play that game so badly that you're willing to break the law for it, should that be worth 15$ a month? Only explanation would be that young students who simple have no money of their own would be tempted by this.

I think the reason is rather the Pirate-Element in it. I bet it's fun to run the servers and get attention for it...

E-GLOBAL – NCSOFT: TRUTH AND LIES

NcSoft is making dash efforts through a (written) press release and is falsifying truth related to an injunction decision by the Courts of Thessaloniki.
The truth is that since June 2007 and given that the discussions for cooperation between the two companies didn’t flourish, NcSoft Corporation, NcSoft Europe Limited, etc., filed a lawsuit against e-Global and its official representatives. During its hearing, there has never been any illegal software confiscation whatsoever. Yet the decision of the Court of First instance in Thessaloniki, in fact gave e-Global justice by repudiating mainly their fundamental demand for moderate confiscation of e-Global’s assets, as its speculation was not consolidated.
e-Global S.A., a Greek company of Internet and Informatics Technology, found itself in an unexpected and unprovoked litigation with the multinational colossus NcSoft and intends to take action at law in order to safeguard its legal rights.
e-Global during its 10 years progress, having business ethics always as its core policy, won recognition as the biggest field company in Greece. It will unwaveringly continue its dynamic development and innovation, undaunted under no circumstance by any gratuitous, indecent assaults.
