DualShock 3 Controller Begins Shipping for the PlayStation 3DualShock 3 Controller Begins Shipping for the PlayStation 3

Sony is now shipping the DualShock wireless controller for the PlayStation 3 to stores in North America. The controller should be available for purchase early next week. This updated PlayStation 3 controller now supports a rumble function. Only some currently available titles support the rumble function, and many require a software update to enable the rumble function. Why was the rumble controller not included from the beginning? Because Sony Computer Entertainment first had to reach an agreement with the company Immersion, that apparently holds copyrights on the rumbling function. Obviously, an agreement has been reached.

Finally! I think this product should have been bundled with the PS3 from the beginning -- the rumble function, e.g. for PS2 or Wii, is a real, additional feedback system which in my opinion can and often does enhance immersion. Although it can get straining on your wrists when you use Espers a lot in Final Fantasy XII :-)
I agree. Like a lot of analysts, I think Sony's decision to not release a DualShock controller with rumble functions was linked to its ongoing patent infringement suit with Immersion.
I think Sony didn't realize how important the function is to gamers, and the lawyers were probably yelling louder than the designers.
Copyright on rumbling, lol!
Maybe I should get a patent on breathing, before someone beats me to the punch.
