This is a brief note to all of you BioShock fans out there: When Take-Two Interactive released its financial results for its fiscal first quarter today, the company confirmed that it does plan to release a sequel to the game that puts players in a genetically modified underwater dystopia.

BioShock 2 is officially in development at Take-Two Interactive’s 2K Marin studio and is currently scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of the company’s 2009 fiscal year. That suggests that the game will be released around the end of October in 2009.

Take-Two is currently under considerable financial pressure and revealed another quarter of poor financial performance, so the announcement is clearly aimed at convincing investors that a turnaround is in the works, not at getting gamers hyped up about an upcoming property.
