Mass Effect For PC in May 2008 // Spore on September 5th (US: 7th)

United States —

The many core PC gamers hanging out around Gamers Global have been wondering when BioWare’s role-playing game Mass Effect, previously released for the Xbox 360, might make it to the PC. Today, Electronic Arts confirmed that a PC version of Mass Effect will be released in May.

The PC version of this game in which players save the universe as Commander Shepard (humanity’s emissary to galactic governance and peacekeeping) will feature controls and graphics designed for the PC. Most importantly, the two big criticisms players had of the Xbox 360 version (aside from long elevator rides), the decryption button-matching game and inventory management, are both being redesigned for the PC.

It’s not clear if the recently announced Mass Effect premium content will be included in the PC version, or if PC gamers will have the opportunity to pay for it later (perhaps as an expansion).

Also, EA has just announced that the highly anticipated next Will Wright game Spore will be published on September 5th, for PC and Mac. (there will also be a DS version, but as you will soon read in a big preview here on GamersGlobal, that will not be the same game).

Just wanted to write such a news myself, but you were faster, maybe I shoudn't have jumped around in the room for 10 minutes after I read it somewhere else :-)
At least I know now when I need to take a vacation.

And what makes me even more happy, it's the second port for PC that gets a few extras, Assassins Creed will have some too.

So I was wrong thinking that Christmas 2008 will be the EARLIEST point where a PC version could come out, due to the high sales of the Xbox 360 version.

awsome, it´s just great. bioware is great anyway and i don´t like it that they´re kind of moving closer to consoles. but that doesn´t matter, as long as their games get on the pc as well. and they make great convertions, thinking about kotor or jade empire. so it´s worth waiting

Player, that's what Amazon.com says, too. So the US release date seems to be the 7th, but the European release date is September 5th, according to EA Germany.

Not yet, but it will hardly be a low-spec game. Don't think that it will be as hardware hungry as Assassin's Creed, though: While the latter game features a lot of "looking to the horizon" with extremely many buildings and NPCs, this is not so important with Mass Effect. Just guessing, of course.

i'm hoping that it won't be as hardware hungry as assassin's creed and will still run on my four year old single core cpu. i can play bioshock on high details pretty smooth, so i hope (since both games use the same engine) that i'll be able to play mass effect too ;)

You can play Bioshock on High on a 4 year old PC? WoW, you must have either payed an absurd amount of money for that PC when it was new, or your definition of "smooth" is a bit of. And I hope we're talking here about resolution beyond 800x600.

i played the bioshock-demo on widescreen-resolution (12xx x something ;)) on high and didn't notice any lagging or something.

system is
p4 @ 3ghz ht
1,5 gb ram (upgraded to 1,5 gb a year ago)
radeon hd 2600 xt agp (upgraded a few weeks ago)

Well, since the Graphic-Card influences your gaming performance more then anything else, I wouldn't call your rig 4 years old when you changed the Graphic-card a few weeks ago.
I believe that it runs smoothly, but your system is simple much younger then you give it credit for :-)
