Halo 3: Hands-onHalo 3: Hands-on

Bungie showed off Halo 3 at E3 2007. Compared to it's predecessor (which was recently released for PC), Bungie worked heavily on improving the graphics, which are up to current standards now. They presented a jungle style level with the Master Chief shooting at the standard bad guy –- mainly those constantly ranting grunts. But now even our team-mates can seem to shut up and keep commenting („I will end you!“) on each one of their actions as well as those of the Master Chief. And there are numerous pre-defined sequences which take place in-game. The effect being, that you feel like being around people, instead of a lone fighter. In the level they showed off, we had to secure a small harbor, across the nicely done, thick jungle. But just when our alter ego switched to a massive gun (the perspective will change to an over-the-shoulder view) and starts to take out the foes, while the UNSC glider Pelican joins him, our air support gets downed by an alien ship. Once the alien ship starts to hunt us down, the mission changes: Find the Pelican and rescue its survivors. In other words: Diverse action seems to be the trick, Bungie relies on. Apart from the solo play, the multiplayer mode is of high importance to Bungie. The battle they presented took place on the biggest map of Halo 3, SandTrap. But where were the enemies? There were none: This presentation showed the new movie mode, which records any battle and enables you to pause, see and zoom in on each and every move during a session. Really everything is recorded, until, as Bungie stated, „the disk is full“. This function should turn out great, if you plan to analyze tactics and improve you skills – it seems, as if Halo 3 will take a significant step towards e-Sports.
