Their Story: Czech Crysis fansite incrysis.cz publishes a story entitled Crysis 2? Screenshots. Along with this story, they post three stunningly beautiful images which are supposed to be seen as proof, that these might be taken from the already announced Crysis 2. Over the next days, international gaming news sites pick up on this and spread the word. Quite a few commenter's react with disbelief, calling the images fake and photshopped.

The Truth: The screenhots aren't faked and are also not photoshopped. But they aren't from Crysis 2 either. According to German gamestar.de, citing an unnamed Electronic Arts press representative and Crytek community manager:

What really happened™: We were able to trace the pics back to a posting made by a user called g80 over at the nvnews.net boards. The same user is also active on the German 3dcenter.org boards, where, as it appears, he initially posted his creations. All three images show the exact same scene and have the exact same resolution and KByte size as the ones posted by incrysis.cz. We should also note, that similar screens appeared on another board, by yet another user. So it seems safe to assume, that more than one person appears to be able to produce Crysis 2 screenshots. And the good news is, so can you!

The three images in question are, contrary to what the EA/Crytek representative supposedly stated, actually taken from two maps. The ones involving the beach, are from a Crysis modification called Photoreal ii by modder sevenstar and the one depicting the street, is from a map called Rock by modder Edolsian.
