Valve Software Prototyping Portal Gun for Episode 3?

United States —

In a recent interview with EGM magazine Doug Lombardi, David Speyrer, Kim Swift, Robin Walker of Valve Software talked about the future of the Half-Life series, Portal and what they are currently up to. Here's one particularly interesting passage:

EGM: What are people demanding?

Kim Swift [Portal Level Designer]: A variety of things: map packs, multiplayer/co-op, Portal 2, Portal gun in Episode Three, and beyond. Right now, we're prototyping a few of these ideas and more. Getting Portals to work at all is a fairly significant challenge, but now that we're able to capture feedback from what worked in the first version, we have a lot to build upon for future versions.

The interview further touches upon topics like Portal 2, storytelling and the Episodes practically being what normally would have been Half-Life 3.

Oh Boy, think about the time we could save by walking through portals instead of driving to work, or flying to your vacation-location.

To the best of my knowledge (read: my best guess) this would be a pretty hefty blow for Entropy. If you understand Entropy as "growing chaos" and are not thinking about fluid dynamics that is.
