Apart from the just released high-res images, little has been seen of Mirror's Edge. But from what Sweden based developer Digital Illusions CE (Battlefield) vaguely described so far, it sounds a little like a Parkour style First Person Prince of Persia with Bourne Identity flavor.

We want to change the way that players are able to move in first person. No more restrictions, no more being blocked by simple barriers such as walls and fences. We want to enable the player to move like a real person, with the ability to run, jump, vault and slide in a way that has never been seen before in a first person game.
-- Owen O’Brien, Senior producer
The game is said to be set in a fictional city, with rampant surveillance and an authoritarian government in control. And with all communication being monitored, the player has to take care of delivering confidential information in person. The next-gen.biz article from July 2007 has more in-depth bits on what the developers envision. Mirror's Edge is planned to be released in 2008 for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

A Prince of Persia FPS - now that certainly sounds nice. I was especially fond of the great composition of colors (red and blue) in the images. This may be a potential title to look forward to this year.

So much movement-freedom definitly sounds interesting. But it is beyond me, why they try this in first person. Third person would really help to not loose your orientation, and if the Avatar really has some cool Parkour-Moves, I would want to see them.

I'm especially interested in seeing how they'll manage to create a believable feeling of having a body attached to your virtual head/eyes. Up until now, most games ended up with floppy results, which mainly looked and felt like controlling a puppet on a string. Even though I've got to admit, that Thief 3 did a a nice job in somewhat accomplishing this.

Dark Messiah also did fairly well there, in my opinion.

The game sounds more like a "free runner" simulation (is this the correct term?).

I've heard "Parkour" referred to as "free running." (not to be confused with Cool Runnings)
