Far Cry 2 confirmed for Spring 2008

United States —

Publisher Ubisoft just confirmed plans to release Far Cry 2 in Spring 2008 for PC. The sequel is in development at Ubisoft's Montreal studio, while the original Far Cry (2004) was made by German developer Crytek.

Both companies went separate ways after Far Cry was released, while the rights remained with Ubisoft. Crytek is currently working on Crysis, which will be released under the Electronic Arts label.

The first unconfirmed details of Far Cry 2 have appeared on the net, quoting German GameStar magazin, which runs a cover story:

  • it takes place in a fantasy state in central Africa
  • you start in search of a guy, but you don't remember why, cause you're almost dying of malaria
  • choose one out of 10 to 12 characters at the beginning
  • no monsters as enemies, Ubisoft goes for realism
  • there will be 14 different vehicle types in the game, jeeps, buggies, boats and the glider from Far Cry -- no bikes
  • players can roam free and accept missions for one of the two factions in the game
  • dynamic weather system with day/night cycles
