PlayStation 2 Outsells PlayStation 3 Over the Holidays in North AmericaPlayStation 2 Outsells PlayStation 3 Over the Holidays in North AmericaMicrosoft recently gloated about the sales of its Xbox 360 console and Sony is just as eager to point out its own holiday success. As a result, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) is telling everyone about its holiday North American console sales numbers. For the period from November 23 through December 31, 2007, Sony claims to have sold 1.2 million PlayStation 3 consoles, a marked improvement over past sales. However, the PlayStation 2 still outsold the PlayStation 3, moving 1.3 million consoles. Sony’s best performing hardware in North America over the holidays was the PSP (it sold 1.4 million units).

Wow, that's crazy, at least that's what I first thought, but I'm sure you can get the PS2 quite cheap and you get wagon-loads of games for mere dimes on Ebay. So maybe people who don't need 'next-gen' and think that 'current-gen' is good enough aren't that crazy after all...
well, it´s no surprise, is it? the playstation 3 is really expensive (compare to other new consoles) and although it hast the best hardware of them, it doesn´t use it. the most games get published for both xbox and playstation, so i can´t see any difference in it. so rather take a cheaper console and get the same (but i myself prefer the wii)
The PS2 costs around $130 in the U.S., and for $20 more you can get some handy bundles. So, yes, for the price of a PS3 you can keep yourself (or your kids) in games for a long time.
