EA Completes Acquisition of BioWare and Pandemic

United States —

Remember in October, when Electronic Arts announced that it planned to acquire BioWare and Pandemic Studios for $620 million in cash and $240 in stock? Today, EA confirmed that it has completed the acquisition.

EA has finished purchasing VG Holding Corp., the parent of both BioWare and Pandemic. While the acquisition brings the considerable expertise of both developers and ten franchises to EA, fans aren’t yet sold. For example, will BioWare bring great role-playing games to EA’s portfolio, or will BioWare and Pandemic’s games ultimately suffer due to the acquisition?

To answer the question in the last line, I don't think that the gamer (us) will benefit from this, having more development-companies just gives more variety and EA was never the most creative company out there (in terms of gaming innovations).

To really answer the question, I think Bioware will not suffer from this in terms of money and being able to finance long-term-projects, but in terms of creativity, the EA oversight won't be good for them.
