“W00T” Becomes Merriam-Webster’s 2007 Word of the Year“W00T” Becomes Merriam-Webster’s 2007 Word of the Year
Last updated on December 12, 2007 - 17:09.
The word “W00t,” defined as an expression of joy in the same class as “yay,” was voted the 2007 Word of the Year in Merriam-Webster OnLine’s recent Word of the Year survey. The 20 candidates for the survey were identified from frequent searches on Merriam-Webster OnLine, the online dictionary from the well-known dictionary publisher. Runners-up were words like “conundrum,” “blamestorm” and “facebook” (used as a verb). But gamers (particularly massively multiplayer online gamers) will be pleased to hear that W00t won out. John Morse, Publisher of Merriam-Webster, said that the choice of W00t is interesting because “…it is taking language in a new direction."

WooT! That's simply fabulous; this will keep me smiling for a long time.
Maybe it's a little different for everybody, but I heard "w00t" a lot more in 2006 then in 2007.
The word, for me, that is on the uprise in 2007 is meh.
Personally I am more partial to "fail". It can even be used sarcastically which is always a plus.
“…it is taking language in a new direction."
Yeah, down the toilet.
This is utterly stupid, but so are the majority of internet nerds, so I guess I should not be surprised.
