Eve Online Update Kills Windows XP

Eve Online Update Kills Windows XP

United States —

Eve Online players may want to be careful when upgrading to the recent Trinity graphics and content update. According to this post on the official forums, upgrading can corrupt PCs running Windows XP.

According to posts on the forums, many users have had their boot.ini file deleted when installing the upgrade, with catastrophic results next time that computer is rebooted.

Additional Information: Mid-day on December 6, CCP released a new version of the update that they claim no longer causes this problem.

I think you should add that this problem only occurs on WinXP and only if you upgraded your old client.
If you download a full install of the new client it won't happen.
I have never even heard of such careless programming. Why are they even touching with the boot.ini ??

The original post did specify Win XP, and the title says Update, so I'm sorry if both those points weren't clear. So far, it appears the issue has been fixed.

Hehe, that makes me remember that game which, during uninstalling, erased your whole hard-drive when you installed it in the root-directory. Sadly I can't remember the game...I'm not 100% sure, so please shot me if I'm wrong, but I think I faintly remember it to be the Demo for Test Drive Unlimited.
