Blu-ray vs. HD DVD: Microsoft wants "confusion in the market"

Blu-ray vs. HD DVD: Microsoft wants "confusion in the market"

United States —

Director Michael Bay (Bad Boys, Transformers) gives a rather interesting insight on the Blu-ray vs. HD DVD format situation that concerns the movie and gaming industry alike. On his personal website, he writes:

Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads. That is the dirty secret no one is talking about. That is why Microsoft is handing out $100 million dollar checks to studios just embrace the HD DVD and not the leading, and superior Blu Ray. They want confusion in the market until they perfect the digital downloads.
--Michael Bay
Certainly doesn't happen every day, that people like him speak their mind in plain language and in public. Blu-ray is being used in Sony's Playstation 3.

I can of course only speak for myself, but a digital download is no substitute for a disk that I can put on my shelf, meaning that a download has a much lower value to me and there's also a big difference between wanting to see a movie and wanting to own a copy of it.

But I also want HD-DVD and Blueray to fail, I will just skip it and keep waiting for the HVD (interesting read if you're into that kinda stuff)

The Millipede sounds more like a replacement for current hard-drive technologies, then for the current optical devices.

I miss you more than Micheal Bay missed the point when he made Pearl Harbor. Why does Micheal Bay keep on making movies. Cause Pearl Harbor sucked just a little more than i miss you.

Ya i agree with Starkiller Millipede looks like a replacement for hard-drives not optical devices.
