Independent developer Digital Eel has released some of its classic games as free downloads for the PC and Mac. Yesterday, Dr. Blob’s Organism and Digital Eel’s Big Box of Blox were released for free. In September, Plasmaworm was released for free.

Plasmaworm is a variation on classic snake-style games and Digital Eel’s Big Box of Blox is a falling block game with psychedelic art and sound. But you should really consider downloading Dr. Blob’s Organism. It’s a shooter in which you try to contain foul cells, spawning from a petri dish. The game is particularly fascinating because the enemies are generated by an algorithm similar to that of John Conway’s Game of Life. I enjoyed it, and it’s now free.
