Rumor has it, that the story of Tomb Raider 8 will revolve around the Mayan calendars, which, depending on who you listen to, are either already in or about to go into the stage of what some call the Underworld.

if the rumor is true, i really hope that the developers won´t do the same to lara again. by this i mean, that as the first tom raider came out it was great. the second was even better and than we just got more and more of those games, never getting anything new, no new developments and it took a really really long time until legend brought the series back to a good status. only months later we get a remake of the first game and now maybe another game? i mean, it wasn´t published by ea games, was it? so why the hurry?

Loved the first part when it came out and recently played through Tomb Raider Legend, which was very enjoyable as well. Didn't like any of the parts in between myself and haven't tried Anniversary yet. Is TR: Anniversary worth the time?

I have to confess, I enjoyed Anniversary very much, much more then Legend actually. Taking the core elements from the very first title that started this all was a cool idea.

Everybody who says that this took no effort, that they simple switched the engine, hasn't played the game. It's made from scratch, some levels just resemble older levels, but apart from the feeling that you have seen it somewhere before it's different and more rich in features.

If you never played the very first game, because you didn't care (shame on you) or because you were to young, this game might be somewhat amusing, but nothing groundbreaking.
If, on the other hand you played the first title over 10 years ago, and you still have fond memories of it, you should absolutly play this game, it's fun to remember certain aspects of the level. There's also a audio comment mode, where you can listen to the developers at certain points, what they changed from the original, what they loved about it and simple goofing around.
I enjoyed that, but might not be for everybody.

Hmm, sounds interesting. I was under the impression that TR:A was merely a 1:1 copy of the first game with new gfx. I think I'll pick up a copy of demo and check it out.

I was under the same impression until I picked it up anyway and was really surprised that it was much more. It´s much more a game inspired by TR1 then a simple remake. But decide for yourself, grab the Demo. And I would love to hear what you have to say about it.

Tried the TRA demo yesterday and think it's pretty bad: No story, no context, no clue of what to do and the first thing that happens is that I get killed by wolfs -- cause they've changed the control defaults from TRL. Its missing control explanation and stops just as abrupt as it starts. But this doesn't mean the game can't be nice. I think I may rent it.

I'm sorry your experience was so bad. I can't recall wolfes in the first few minutes of the game, the game starts outside, in front of a big door, actually the same door you saw in the first TR when you turned around in the start (or if you can recall the intro).
In this section all the basic controls are getting explained, jumping, climbing, etc. So maybe it was a bad choice to let the demo start at a different point, I can't say, never played the demo.

And I fully agree that the title is lacking in the story-department, maybe it didn't bother me because I was expecting a remake and no story at all.

I liked Legend as well, was nice to hop around with Lara, just was fun watching the acrobatics. And I played the first 3 ones, the Second one is the best until now. The atmosphere in the Opera, in the shipwreck, in the Mountains, it was pretty cool...

I dream of a world without tom raider, need for speed, fifa, madden and all the games which get a sequel every year.
