Nintendo Announces Record Early Holiday Sales

United States —

According to internal sales numbers, Nintendo claims that it has enjoyed record U.S. sales of its gaming systems in the first week of the 2007 holiday shopping season, defined by Nintendo as November 18 through November 24.

During this week, Nintendo claims to have sold 653,000 DS gaming systems to U.S. consumers, compared to its previous record of 600,000 GBA systems in the equivalent week in 2005. Nintendo also says that it sold 350,000 Wii systems this week in the US. That’s more systems sold in a week than in any week since the console’s launch.

These are Nintendo’s internal numbers, and therefore not audited by an external organization. Still, the numbers are high enough that Nintendo is ready to brag about its success.

I wonder, is there a big difference between the WII and the Sidewinder Freestyle Pad Microsoft sold 8 years ago? Or is it the same, and the reason it wasn't succesful was that MS' marketing was rubbish?
