New Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising Images

United States —

A set of five fresh Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising images has surfaced on the Ronin Squad boards. It is presumed that these images are not actual screenshots, but rather target pictures of what the developers want the game to look like. Here are the direct links to the high-res pics:

  1. Soldiers in the field
  2. Tank and Hummer
  3. Soldier with machine gun
  4. Hummer in the dirt
  5. Soldiers and Tank
The board also holds three scans of a preview PC Zone UK presumably did back in August 2007. The previously released teaser trailer is still available from codemasters.com, if you haven't seen it yet. Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising is not expected before the end of 2008.

IMO, if those are supposed to be target pictures, the tanks are pretty ugly. At least those in the last pic.

Those are really easy on the eyes. The overall image quality with blurring, depth of field and shadows is great. The first game was a pretty nifty war sim. Let's see, how this one will turn out.

Infantry missions were very good, but everything involving vehicles was not very manageable, I recall. I liked the special ops missions best by the way, I still remember infiltrating that Russian camp in the woods...

Indeed. Trying to figure out how to fly helicopters was difficult enough, especially with mouse and keyboard, but then the game even required you to hit moving targets with unguided missiles. That had me cursing for a few hours. I especially remember the mission where you get promoted to squadleader and have to lead your squad to a town 30 or so kilometers away. Because the road was a deathtrap of russion troops with RPGs and the terrain impassable for most vehicles I couldn't use the APC like suggested and had to walk (!) to the objective, always watching for an ambush. Took me some attempts and many hours of my life. In retrospect I can hardly believe I completed that game. Then again, the experience was better than any anti-war movie.

I admit I was a fanatic concerning that game, but it made everything right. Well, it was not easy, but it was not meant to be. And with some training the choppers were great. Or the sniper rifle. If you took your time, you could hit the driver in the car 500 meters away from you. tanks were slow, but well, that's what tanks are :)
hmm, I think I should play it again...

Tanks being slow ?? I wouldn't call a beast that weighs more than 50 tons and can go at a top speed of over 50 or 60 km/h slow.

well. slow. slower than a chopper. and their reaction too slow for surviving an ambush. but this is not the place for a Tank vs. the rest of the World discussion :)

Eh? Really some target pictures (not even actual screenshots) and its a top article? Is it even an AAA title?
Heh, whatever =)
Btw, this imagehost is infinitley slow, I mean the links don't work for me.
