Ghostbusters will returnGhostbusters will return

Vivendi Games has just announced that, under the Sierra Entertainment label, a revival of the 80ies brand Ghostbusters is planned for Fall 2008. Currently under development by the studios Terminal Reality and Red Fly, Ghostbusters - The Video Game will be a third person action game for PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii and DS. The first three versions (PC, 360, PS3) will be done by Terminal Reality, the other three by Red Fly. It seems that the original movie cast from 1984 and 1989 (part 2) will return: Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson, or so Vivendi's PR release implies (but does not exactly state), will speak the dialogues in the game and could also do motion capturing scenes. The story (by Dan Aykroyd and Harlod Ramis) will be about haunted places all over New York. And, but you could also guess that from the original movies and the cast, humor could play a big part in the game. The player will take the role of a Ghostbuster recruit, using several weapons and gadgets to catch strange creatures and ghosts, supposedly getting more money by doing so which he can translate into better weapons and gagdets. At least, that was the principle of the orignal Ghostbuster arcade games (on platforms like the Commodore 64) in the 80ies. Vivendi says that the Ghostbusters franchise had total revenues in excess of 1 billion dollars, plus around 580 million dollars revenues by the two movies. The new game has been talked about for some while. Original developer ZootFly, working with Dan Aykroyd, had to pause production in May 2006 because of copyright issues, and no publisher had been announced. Although the now announced Vivendi game could be a totally new product, because of Aykroyd's involvement it's likely that it will continue the development or at least use some aspects of the ZootFly game-in-development. Vivendi Games got the licence from Sony Pictures. For more information and screenshots, visit the official home page.

"Who you gonna call?" "Ghost-BUSTERS!" How I miss them, the good ol' eighties...
The Commodore 64 game was quite primitive, but I loved it for it's "authentic" soundtrack :-) The movie itself was hilarious. For quite a long time, I could not open my fridge without thinking of "Zuul".
I just remember one scene from a ghostbusters game where you actually controlled Lady Liberty and had to shoot some weird things down with the flames. Was that the Commodore 64 game ???
But the Ghostbusters Movies are great, although I tend to like Ghostbusters 2 better. I just don't know why - well maybe because of the bad guy "Vigo".
Just waiting for more info to come about the new game.
I always liked the second "Ghostbusters"-Movie better, and the main reason for this is Peter MacNicol. I was soooo afraid of him in his role.
