Prince of Persia Movie: Director Gives First Details

Prince of Persia Movie: Director Gives First Details

United States —

Despite only five days into the making of the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie, director Mike Newell shares some insights. According to a recent report, the movie is said to be a love story set against danger and will revolve around a priestess and Stonehenge.

While the original game didn't have anything to do with Stonehenge, gamers should be pleasantly surprised to read, that hanging onto edges and weird jumps appear to be a given for the Jerry Bruckheimer produced flick. Upbeat yet? Here's the damper:

I haven't played the Prince of Persia game.

But the director goes on to ensure towards canmag.com, that he's got a minion who is, even as you read this, training him on the Prince of Persia game. Newell's movie isn't expected to be out before 2009.

The first Prince of Persia came out in 1989 and was done by Jordan Mechner, who even employed two of his family members for doing music and graphics: The animations of the prince were modeled from live video of Jordan's brother doing the moves.

How can you make a movie about a game and don't play it??
Stupid directors :( *angry*

I honestly don't think that's a problem. Do you think Angelina Jolie has ever played Tomb Raider? Still, she was the perfect Lara Croft, to name but one example. A director usually doesn't invent the story, the story writer does. Well, HE or SHE should have played Prince of Persia, of course :-)

I agree, but how does Jolie as an actor compare to Newell as a director?

btw. imdb.com lists Jordan Mechner as one of two writers.

Well, do you mean physically, or are you questioning my allegory? :-)

I'm talking about your Jolie example. Actor and director don't carry the same weight as far as knowledge of the subject are concerned. It certainly shows if writer and director are familiar with the game. See the first Resident Evil flick or Silent Hill.

Plus, offering the mildly redundant Tomb Raider movies to counter the valid concern by Phlexonance does trigger anything, but feelings of comfort in me :)

As long as they somehow manage not to destroy all the good memories I have for this game everything is okay.
But Gold help them if they do. ;) And could they please, please, please somehow use the word "Kakulukia" in the film? Please? :)

@Jörg: I wouldn't say Angelina Jolie was the perfect "Tomb Raider" 'cause the authenticity had less to do with her acting than with her body. ;)

Hmmmm.... Actually how much "acting" is needed for a character like Lara Croft?

Prince of Persia I by Jordan is still the best in the series ...
(PoP II was great, too, but no emulator runs it fine ... :/)
