Garry's Mod now comes with support for Valve's Orange Box games like Episode 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2. The modification is a physics sandbox, that unlike regular games, doesn't have any rules or goals. It simply let's you do all sorts of fun stuff with Source Engine in-game elements. NeoGAF user Сrushed posted a quick guide of how to get the latest Garry's Mod beta working:

REQUIRES HL2:EP2 & GMOD10

1. Download www.garrysmod.com/gmbeta/gmbeta2007.zip

2. Extract it to your SourceMods folder. i.e. C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\

It should make the folder C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\gmbeta2007

The folder will be empty(ish)

3. Download and install Tortoise SVN from http://tortoisesvn.net/downloads

4. Right click on the gmbeta2007 folder, and go to "SVN Update"

It should then update. It should just download gameinfo.txt and a load of spawnicons.

When you want to check for updates again, do the same thing again.

As a result, there's a healthy portion of entertaining images over at the NeoGAF boards. Garry's Mod is available from Steam for $9,95.

So why exactly should anyone download the mod from Steam for 10 bucks if it's available for free on the net? Is that just a frantic ploy by Valve to get even richer, or does the Steam version have any special features?

there's no free version of gmod anymore. the download links above still require gmod10 to be installed.

I see... so Valve is still hiring everyone who makes a popular mod. Good for them, I guess.
