Playstation 3: Update to Firmware 2.0 availablePlaystation 3: Update to Firmware 2.0 available

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe announced the new system software version 2.00 for Playstation 3 is now available. It is now possible to turn a PS3 on and off remotely with a PSP system and therefore to use multimedia content (pictures, videos, music) stored on the PS3's hard disc drive anywhere in the world. Version 2.00 enables personalized playlists for music and photos and customization of the XMB menu screen. To get the latest Playstation news an information board is added to the XrossMediaBar as well as an internet security system, Trend Micro Web Security. In order to use remote play at least PS3 version 1.80 and PSP firmware version 3.50 is required. It's good to know the service will be provided free of charge until the end of April, 2008 on a trial basis.

I also wanted to post this: but as soon as I noticed how underwhelming the features were, I simply left it at that. If you turn on remote access be prepared for your PS3 to spin its fan 24/7 (even when the PS3 is turned off).
Why are they advertising that the service will be free of charge until April '08?
I don't own a PS3, so I might not get this, but it sounds like a normal update, like a new driver for your graphic card, or a hotfix for windows, so even thinking about charging for this should make them blush with shame.
So why is there no outrage? Either I don't get it, or console-owners are so used to being milked by now, that they don't notice anymore.
I guess, from time to time, Sony likes to see their thingy in the news ;)
By "the service" the new Trend Micro Web Security is meant. It's a kind of protection application comparable to something like "Norton Internet Security" I guess. Not a bad thing since systems like the PS3 actually are modern computers and connect to the internet on a regular basis. So it's only a question of time until we see the first virus for one of the newer consoles.
The system update itself and the new features are free of charge (set aside the Trend Micro Web Security after April 08).
Thank you for clarifying that.
Here are some more pics of their shiny new GUI: http://threespeech.com/blog/?p=699
