Rock Band is Gold

MTV Games and developer Harmonix sent an e-mail confirming that Rock Band is gold, in duplication and should reach stores in North America on November 20 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The PlayStation 2 version should ship in North America on December 18, and all three versions should reach Europe in the first three months of 2008.

The rhythm game that lets gamers play popular songs along with friends in a basic instrument combo has been competing head-to-head for gamers’ attention with Guitar Hero III (that’s already in stores). While Rock Band has captured the main attention in the gaming press, Guitar Hero III is already racking up tremendous sales and is doing better with the average consumer and the mainstream press.

The game will be initially available as a bundle for just under $170 (the PlayStation 2 version will cost $10 less) that will include a guitar controller, drum kit and microphone alongside the game. The Xbox 360 version will include a USB hub to plug in the instruments. The game will also be available without instruments for just under $60, and is compatible with a variety of other controllers, but individual Rock Band instruments will not be available for a while.

It's too sad, and hardly understandable, though, that the game won't be released in Europe before 2008. Too bad, as it would have filled the Christmas stores quite well.

Activision will like it, because now their Guitar Hero 3 has no competition over here whatsoever (perhaps from SingStar).

I don't care that much when Rock Band will come out in Europe. Don't get me wrong, I think the game will be nice but mostly as some sort of party game. If you want to have fun playing some instrument alone Guitar Hero 3 would be the better choice in my opinion (apart from playing a real instrument).
