Electronic Arts Confirms Big Cuts

Electronic Arts Confirms Big Cuts

United States —

In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Electronic Arts stated that its Board of Directors approved its reorganization plan (to rearrange the business around four labels, as previously announced). The Board also approved major cuts in terms of jobs and facilities.

EA plans to close facilities, cut jobs, end leases and reorganize its business support functions. EA officially confirmed that it will close its UK studio in Chertsey, with that news following last week's confirmation of certain job cuts. EA expects that this reorganization (think: job and studio terminations) will cost the company between $90 and $110 million, but will save the company between $25 and $30 million per year.

Oh please, dear God, don't let staff of Bioware be a victim of these politics one day.

And what is it with EA? I mean: Yes, of course. It's business, it's all about money. But aren't they already rather rich enough?

PS: Might well be that I'm not the most objective person when it comes to EA, I confess. ;)

They probably need the office space for the Bioware folks ;)

Taking into consideration that EA is the best cashcow shepherd when it's about re-releasing games of little innovation, it is really no wonder that they, literally, want to win new land by eating up companies that made games of gaming history. I hope this will do no harm to BioWare, and Pandemic having such a publisher burden on their shoulder now, arranging, and re-arranging projects and release plans. Never try to fix a working system, EA.

Maybe EA will learn from Pandemic and BioWare that quality is much more important than quantity.

I hope they do, I hope they do. I do hope that they will also learn to only release a game when it is really finished - without the need of dozens of patches.

EA isn't really known for releasing buggy games though...

You must be joking: merely looking at BF2, NHL 07, Tiger Woods freezing on the 360, and so forth, is proof enough.
