Konami has announced that the highly anticipated 4th installment of the Metal Gear Solid franchise will be delayed. That's bad news for Sony Computer Entertainment, because MGS 4 could be one of the "killer applications" that the PS3 still is lacking. The delay will be to the "second Quarter of 2008", with more information to follow. MGS: Guns of the Patriots is not the first PS3 game of this fall/winter season to be delayed, so this is another hint on the difficulties developers seem to face when programming on this console. Another example could be Assassin's Creed, which could be delayed for PS3 because of problems with the console's main memory, according to Creative Director Patrice Desilets.

Is MGS4 exclusive to PS3?
Yes, for the time being. There have been rumors about a Xbox 360 version, which were denied shortly afterwards by Microsoft itself. But I am sure we'll eventually see a PSP and PC version, and who knows...

I didn't know there was a 4th Metal Gear Solid in production.
Weren't there also plans for a new Final Fantasy exclusive to the PS3 ? That's definitely something I would see as a "killer application" for the console ... Hell, I think it's stupid to buy a console just because of one title but FF-"don't-know-the-right-number" would really be a title I would entitle like that.

Well I have to admit that the game really looks great. Since I haven't played Metal Gear Solid 3 I'm not up to date about the storyline, so it seems like I have to get the dust off my PS2 and find a store to buy a copy of MGS3. Release of MGS4 is still a long time away so I don't have to rush buying a PS3 - who knows, perhaps they get cheaper till then.
