Microsoft Launches Xbox 360 Arcade Console for $280Microsoft Launches Xbox 360 Arcade Console for $280

Today, Microsoft launched the long-rumored Xbox 360 Arcade console for just under $280 in North America. The latest method for packaging the Xbox 360 console is targeted at families and casual gamers and designed to compete better with the Wii for that market. The Xbox 360 Arcade console sports an HDMI port, includes a wireless controller and a 256 MB memory card. It doesn't come with a hard drive, but does come with five Xbox Live Arcade games: Pac-Man Championship Edition, Uno, Luxor 2, Boom Boom Rocket and Feeding Frenzy. To emphasize the family and casual aim of this console packaging, Microsoft's Vice President of Global Marketing for the Interactive Entertainment Business described it as "...an incredible all-in-one package for families to get right into the fun..." featuring "Family Settings, which allow parents to control what their kids are watching and playing..." This version of the Xbox 360 console won't meet the needs of traditional gamers, nor the needs of those who want to download a lot of content like television shows and movies, but it is a more accessible price for families during the upcoming holiday season. The same console should reach the UK on Friday, October 26 and will cost just under £200, there.

I could be wrong but isn't a PS2 or the Wii not much better suited for that Family audience? Both consoles are less expensive than the "low" $280 offer! Xbox 360 is a hardcore console, no matter what the marketing guy told you!
It seems to me that what Xbox Arcade has to offer (or is putting it's emphasis on) -- arcade games -- can be downloaded or played online on the PC much cheaper, for example using pogo.com or msn games.
That is completely right. These games are really much cheaper on the pc, the bundle is kind of nonsense in my opinion.
