Age of Conan Still Coming to Xbox 360 (Update)

Germany —

Although the online game Age of Conan is not as prosperous as anticipated on the PC, developer Funcom is still determined to release the game on the Xbox 360. Erling Ellingsen, product manager of Funcom, stated this during an interview with MTV Multiplayer .

This is Ellingsen's response to the claim that about 70% of the staff have been fired:

Our aim is for this to not affect development of ‘Age of Conan,’ or any of our other games, at all. We are sticking firmly to our plans. The Xbox 360 version of the game is still in production, but as before we are not committing to any specific dates. I wish I could give you more information, but I can’t at the time being.

So he's not denying the loss in workforce ("decimation" would be too cautious a term for the process). And while it may still be possible to finish the Xbox version with a much smaller staff (art assets, for example, should not need too much work to be ported from PC to Xbox 360), MMO fans looking for an adult themed MMO are left without a release date or any information about cross-platforming between PC and Xbox 360 players.

Update: Funcom now announced that their planned server fusion will take place even before Christmas, but not on all servers simultaneously. First the US-servers "Bloodspire" and "Hyperborea" will be united. If the time span to achieve this takes too long, the developers promised players additional playing time.

Nice news! The consoles are still the final frontier for MMOs (and RTS) games. Thus, I believe chances for AoC ain't too bad over there!

Because my internet is having connection problems at least once a day (if not even more often) there is no use in playing MMO's for me currently, plus I would probably not find the time anyway. Which is really a pity, because I didn't see more of Age of Conan yet than Level 6 with my char; and I would really like to play it some more to find out if it is on the same road as Tabula Rasa or if it can find back to the glory it still had in its first month.
