1080p Fighter SSF2T HD Remix Upscales Character Art1080p Fighter SSF2T HD Remix Upscales Character Art

No sooner was Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix released on XBL and PSN, some players already noticed unusual artifacts in the character sprites. Capcom’s reincarnation of the famous 2D fighter comes with full HD 1080p support. The backgrounds of the fighting arenas are crisp -- however, the character sprites are not. Sign for some serious HD upscaling? Unfortunately, yes. As the arcade game was originally made for 4:3 screens back then, it is no big surprise Capcom's remake crops the backgrounds accordingly when playing in the now console-standard aspect ratio of 16:9. Also, the character sprites are upscaled to fit into this aspect ratio. DigitalFoundry wrote:
Yes, SSF2T HD Remix is indeed scaling its character art - and indeed cropping the backgrounds. It’s because the game itself is made for 4:3 - not the game’s default mode, by the way. The solution to the problem is to simply switch back to the game’s native aspect –- 4:3 -– and you’ll be more than fine. If you haven’t noticed any upscaling yet when playing in 16:9 (most probably due to some serious martial arts firework on-screen), feel free to skip this advice. [ Source: 1 ]
