Sony PlayStation 3 Price Drops to €399 in EuropeSony PlayStation 3 Price Drops to €399 in Europe

To improve sales of its flagship PlayStation 3, Sony will drop the price on the PlayStation 3 console in Europe on October 10. A new 40 GB model of the PlayStation 3 is launching throughout Europe for €399. In the UK, this model will cost £299. This new version of the console will still support HDMI connections and will play Blu-Ray content. It will, however, feature only two USB 2.0 ports and will not include the multi memory card port. The model is also not backwards-compatible with PlayStation 2 titles. This is particularly disappointing, given Sony’s emphasis prior to the PlayStation 3 launch on the importance of reverse compatibility. The current starter pack, that includes a 60 GB PlayStation 3, complete with a controller and two games, will be reduced in price to €499. This pack will only remain on sale as long as supplies last. In the UK, this pack will be available for £349.

There is no reason yet to buy a PS3. The software lineup is far from good.
True, which is a shame. A friend bought one the day it came out and installed Linux. He now mainly uses it to play SNES and equally old ROMs with it.
But I've got admit, that it's a pretty sophisticated multimedia box. I like the fact that I can just walk up to it, insert the memory chip of my mobile and swap or rip music.
That's exactly what I think, but this will change immediately when some of the big names like Metal Gear 4 are coming out, or the next Final Fantasy.
Metal Gear 4 will be HUGE. What could go wrong, when they've got Coke drinking monkeys ;)
Come on, Xbox 360 has much, much, much more exclusive titles, PS3 is just lame.
Just my 2 cents here again, You buy PS3 because you want a cheap blu ray player. Maybe this will change with MGS4 but i only played the first installment on psx.
Well there's some truth in what you say. Even though I kinda doubt that someone who is after BlueRay and the quality increase, is mainly concerned about cheap hardware. Especially if you consider that you'd need a HDVT for it, to make actual sense.
