Eurogamer's LiveText interview with Far Cry 2 producer Louis-Pierre Pharand, where users could ask their questions, gave great in-sights into the facts that hadn't been touched by game journalists yet. Do you want some clarification on Far Cry 2's multiplayer mode, its differences between PC and console version, the map editor or fan-generated content? We have collected the most important, new facts about Far Cry 2 for you. To anticipate one fact ahead: There'll be no Far Cry 2 demo!
Differences: PC & console version
- Pharrand didn't want to be too clear on that. But we assume while both versions are "totally badass" (that's a quote) and exhaust the possibilities of each platform to its limits, it is nonetheless safe to assume that with a high-end PC you will gain much better graphic results (crispier textures, higher LOD, and so forth). Both versions, however, run at their maximum visual quality and frame rate, assured Pharand. And did we mention that the whole FC2 world is entirely streamed? 50 squarekilometers without ever loading in-between. But then it also depends on how big your pocket money is: "But it's up to the investment you want to put in, and to the fact that are you a PC shooter fan or console shooter fan? The bottom line is that they are both of extreme quality."
- For the PlayStation players among us: Yes, the PS3 version will come along with full Trophy support (and Achievements for the Xbox 360 version, of course).
Multiplayer
- All the singleplayer features like fire propagation, destructibility of objects, day-night cycles, and more make an equal appearance in the multiplayer mode of Far Cry 2 as well. Especially fire propagation in combination with Africa's vegetation (loads of flammable trees, grass) could prove interesting, and quite tactical in multiplayer.
- Far Cry 2 will come with four multiplayer modes. The pretty standard Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the
Flag Diamond (mind Africa ...), and Uprising which is better known as, for instance, VIP Escort (Rainbow Six 2) where a team has to protect the VIP and capture points. The opposing team's objective is to kill the VIP.
- Vehicles that will make an appearance in FC2's multiplayer mode as highlighted by Pharand: "Jeeps, 4X4, big trucks, sedans, river and fishing boats, the glider, and more."
- No bots whatsoever in Far Cry 2.
- Regarding the XP system: Far Cry 2 won't support a unified XP system that rewards you with experience points in both SP and MP (CoD4, R6V2). You will rather gain experience, and level up class-wise within a match(es of the same party)--as far as we have understood that. But let's Pharand speak for himself: "We decided that all persistent stats will occur within a match or a defined series of matches. [...] You will upgrade within classes and it will allow you to be more tactical in your progression depending of the type of maps you play."
Map editor and user-created content
- The map editor is for multiplayer maps only--with a maximum size of 500 squaremeters (which should be more than sufficient). The highly accessible map editor will come with two completely different controls schemes. Depending on which version, PC or console, you got, they are especially tailored to your keyboard/mouse or controller pad.
- User-generated maps will be rated by the community. While the best maps will go to the top, the best map makers are going to be crowned by Ubisoft as well. The reward: "We'll we want to make sure that the best map makers will get known and respected by their peers. Plus, we will want to meet those great map makers!"
Are we so much more into Far Cry 2 now? You can damn bet on it!

No bots means that only one copy will be purchased by me. I know plenty of people who own multiple consoles that will buy multiple copies of games if they have bots. I happen to be one of them.
My wife and I as well as my friends play together at my house on multiple consoles against bots (Rainbow six, Ghost recon). I am among the many who does not enjoy gaming with strangers.
Not to mention your not always garunteed to have plenty of friends online at once, so whats the point of huge open world vistas if your only up against one opponent? Game companies really need to listen to the feedback of there hardcore gamers.
BOTS MEANS MORE COPIES SOLD.
Kudos for the level editor, but I speak for many when I say its worthless without bots.
That's a very interesting point which hadn't occured to me so far. On a side note, I'm testing Red Alert 3 right now, and in the "solo" campaign, you always have a "bot" general helping you, who can also be another player via network or gamespy. I like that system.
