Fallout 3 without "Real" DrugsFallout 3 without "Real" Drugs

Two months ago, we informed you that Fallout 3 would be banned in Australia if the use of drugs was shown in the game. Obviously, Bethesda would not want that, so they censored the game, but everyone thought this would just concern the Australian version. Now, Pete Hines stated: “We want to make sure folks understand that the Australian version of Fallout 3 is identical to both the UK and North American versions in every way, on every platform.” No morphine then. Not even for the Netherlands. But Stimpacks are cool as well. Hines said earlier that the different countries and their varying censorship standards are a challenge for the developers. I guess that's the way of the world - not every country is the same. You're not aiming at one target, you're aiming at six different ones, worrying about how each one will feel about different things. Fans of the old Fallout games may know that the same thing happened to Fallout 1 and 2. In the US version, there were children running around (which you could, like every other living thing in the game, kill). This was censored in the European version, including the UK. German gamers had, as usual, a lower level of violence, the sometimes quite extreme death animations were cut away as well.

Oh my. So if nothing but the names of the drugs change, our kids are protected. Nice to see that not only Germany has strange censorship rules.
Hey Bethesda developers, how about leaking a "patch" after release, which replaces the names back to original :)? Just send it to me and i claim i coded it :p
Modders will do that anyway. Just like any Blood/Boobs/Whateverpatch. It's just easier, only text, no graphics to change.
As long there are mentas, buff-out, rad-x and all that it's okay to me.
mentats, please :)
Let's face it: There are hypocrites in each and every country's government. Or one could rather say that some people in some governments may *not* be hyprocites. In nearly all the cases of banning or censorship or youth protection, it's not about protecting youths, at all. Sometimes, it is about protecting the politicians belief systems. Mostly, its simply what they think their voters will like to hear.
