Spore Prototypes for freeSpore Prototypes for free
Last updated on September 9, 2008 - 12:49.
American developer Maxis released a few prototypes of their simulation Spore on the game's official website. The small programs are available for free and worth the download if you are interested in the long-term development of the game's core concepts. These prototypes were developed in early phases of the game, to test certain aspects in a small simple application, before implementing it into the main application, e.g. a quick mock-up of the creature editor, or a few simple simulators for water or gravity. For more information on Spore, the new game of The Sims creator Will Wright, read our extensive review here at GamersGlobal.com.

Such a talented team, so much great ideas, but such a disppointing result.
Will Right was pretty laid back in a recent interview when asked about some of the reviews where Spore only got mediocre scores. He explained that he was expecting that from some hardcore players, but that the game was that simple by design.
Well, I guess we have to see what the future brings, if the game will sell like candy, then he was right and he tapped into the huge market of casual gamers.
One can always hope for mods, I suppose...
The photo you've chosen for the news just looks like a screenshot from an extended edition of indie game flOw.
Well, the first phase plays exactly like fl0w, so it's fitting. I just put the logo in there and a shadow below that, but basically it's just a screenshot.
Why souhld they bother about bad reviews from hardcore gamers? They will earn more money with spore than the best first person shooters in the middle of the first person shooter boom, just because this is a very casual and beginnerfriendly game.
It will spread into a much bigger audience and will introduce many new players to gaming especially women and girls and I think thats a good thing, cause i hate to see the so called "hardcore gamers" to get stuck on the same 3 genres scince 1995. (RTS, FPS, ... well maybe its' just 2).
I think spore is an intresting toy to fiddle around with ...
I think you missed the RPG-guys there....just saying.
Also, what you said about Spore introducing games to new people, that's what Will Wright is saying for some time now, it's convincing but I'm not there yet.
Let's wait for the first numbers to roll in, then we'll see if we was right all along, or if Spore isn't as successful as they might have hoped for.
