Do you know why those 2D fighter fans are smirking all over their faces? Because King of Fighters '98, one of the most popular 2D fighting games on earth, is headed to the Xbox 360 as was revealed by the master list of games at the Tokyo Game Show 2008.

In development by SNK Playmore as Xbox Live Arcade title, the game will be released in the Ultimate Match version, which was also announced as PS2 version at the GCDC 08. From what we could see in the official PS2 Ultimate Match trailer, the new features for the Xbox 360 version could as well include (as nothing was officially announced yet):

  1. Better graphics
  2. Ten new characters: This ups the roster to a total of 64.
  3. Ultimate mode
  4. Neo Geo mode: Play the original Neo Geo version of KOF '98
  5. Challenge mode
  6. Practice and command mode
  7. Gallery mode
  8. Color Edit mode: Allows you to customize the colors of attacks and characters.

You can watch the official (PS2) trailer of KOF '98: Ultimate Match here.

Maybe I'm wrong because I know little about fighting games, I played Street Fighter when it was new, but that's 10 years ago. The game looks like a really refined version of Street Fighter, can it compete with the new one?
