Electronic Arts are celebrating "13 years of Command & Conquer" with what they call the "Red Alert 3 Step." Essentially, they're offering the very first Red Alert as a free download. Should you choose to pre-order Red Alert 3 before the 27th of October, you will also be able to download Red Alert 2 at no further cost.
You can download RA1 here, if you scroll down to the bottom of the page. An alternate download mirror can be found here. The download itself is a RAR, the discs are in ISO format.
N.B.: For me, the soviet disc downloaded without problems from EA.com. The allied disc, however, kept aborting the download after about 65MB on all three servers. The alternate mirror (Fileshack) worked.

We wanted to play it last month in LAN and then could not because we didn't find out how to run it under IPX or TCP IP
We have a LAN planned in about a month, maybe we'll manage to make it run. We got Master of Orion 2 to run with IPX, so I'm fairly confident. ;)
I could only set it to modem or Nullmodem, so I guessed there was not such a thing at that time. On the other hand, we played it at that time with a few people over coaxial cables, so it should work somehow.
I'm downloading it right now. Granted, I could just take the box from the shelf, but an .iso file is so damn convenient and I guess it's already fully patched.
