System requirements for Mirror's Edge made public

At nVidia's fair nVision EA gave a first glimpse at the system requirements for DICE's Mirror's Edge. The website GameCyte got the information directly from an EA employee.

You will need at least:

  1. Windows XP or Windows Vista
  2. Pentium 4 Processor with 2,4 Ghz
  3. 1 GByte RAM
  4. Video card of the Geforce 6 series with 256 Mbyte video memory
  5. For higher details you'll need a Core 2 Duo.

The presentation was shown (probably on maximum details) on a PC with:

  1. Core 2 Duo E8500 (3,12 GHz)
  2. 3 GByte RAM
  3. GeForce GTX 260

Mirror's Edge was inspired by the French trend sport Parkour. It takes place in a near future. You'll play the main character Faith, she's a runner whose job is to transport valuable information through the city without being caught. The thriller-action story of Mirror's Edge is told through 2D animation and includes a really intricate plot.

The game will be released in November 2008.

Thank you, I`m really looking forward to the game, because Assassin's Creed was such a big disappointment in my opinion, so I hope DICE will make a better parkour game.

Assassin's Creed was not a really bad game, some people even say that it's the best game they have played for years (not me). The mission structure was repetitive and boring and the game was too short but the graphics were ok and the controls were intuitive. What set AC apart from other games, was the climbing on buildings, it looked realistic and fluid.

The presentation was brilliant, that's right. Graphics, music, especially the animations were very well made. The controls were also good and the idea of playing a killer in the middle-age was something completely new, but the remainder was simply bad in many ways: Very simple fights, then it was no challenge to climb on the houses or walls, the game had a boring hero, a cliffhanger ending ...

Hmm I still need to play that, it (the hype before) was the reason why I bought a new PC :)

You bought a new PC to play AC and then never bothered to actually buy the game?
Man you need to get your priorities straight B-)

Mass Effect is much better anyway :)

No, Mass Effect was my biggest disappointment this year. Sorry, but the fighting system was too simple, the side-quests were very bad, the world was boring and the characters (also Wrex) had no complex personalitiys. I liked Jade Empire or KotOR much more

actually, from my point of view the Mako was the most horrible and dreadful thing of the game. But the side-missions were duller than a fake sword, I admit.

There were interesting part of the game, but it wasn't enough to keep me playing.

I loved Jade Empire, I actually played through it on a weekend.

JE was great, but I liked ME better - possibly due to the distinct lack of assault rifles in JE. Of course KotOR is way better, but still, ME creates a nice atmosphere and an interesting universe. It could have been one of the best RPGs ever, without the Mako and those elevator rides and with better sidequests, but it's still better than most of the junk published nowadays. ;)

Oh, didn't expect such a discussion.

I like the mako, the physics are crap, the shooting is easy, still I like it
I like the graphics, it is looks just really cool
I like the psi stuff, the lifting and throwing just looks good

I hate the side quests. "Hi, the world will be destroyed, but could you check out that ship of my cousin, he has a problem with his engines"
I hate that they do not use the huge main station for more quests than that, you are there a few times and run around, but there is less city-feeling than in JediKnight.
I hate the items and the inventory, it is just ridiculous to collect new versions of the same weapon.

But still, I like that game...

I know that Rhianna Pratchett, the daughter of Terry Pratchett, writes the story of Mirror's Edge. She also wrote the story of Overlord, a game I'm playing in the moment, and well, the dialogues are very funny but the storyline itself is quite thin, so I'm not sure if the narrative part of Mirror's Edge is going to be very good.
