Ubisoft talks about player immersion in Far Cry 2Ubisoft talks about player immersion in Far Cry 2

Obviously, Ubisoft has put much effort into making Far Cry 2 a really great looking game. Apparently though, getting the player to feel immersed and connected with his avatar and the game world around him, seems to have played an even greater role when creating Far Cry 2. The newest Far Cry 2 trailer deals with player immersion and how the first person shooter achieves just that in a way never seen before. From watching fluid, punchy weapon animations, the possibility to fix the broken engine of a Jeep, to the relocation of a broken arm (see image teaser), the trailer gives good examples of how immersive Far Cry 2 really is--and how painful it can look (see video at 2:30). That sounds really great, if they tell me something about the mission structure and I like it, then I'm going to buy it.
Well, the broken arm animation or better the way he "heals" himself looked very funny.
funny as in strange, or do you just have a sick humor? :-)
No, my humor's definitely not sick, but come one, if would be so easy to heal a broken arm we would not need doctors anymore. The whole game is so realistic, or wants to be realistic, but this important element, the healing system that you'll probably use very often, looks so strange.
Well, I like how they did it here, it's more realistic then a fricking healthbar.
But of course, there is a limit how realistic they can make it, because, simple put, you don't want to play a realistic game, where your characters is going to die after the first bullet that hit him or where a broken limb puts you out for about 6 weeks.
One can only hope that your character doesn't need to relocate a broken arm every 5 minutes.
I actually prefer health bars, if they're explained as part of a HUD in a combat suit or something, as in Republic Commando, for instance. That felt pretty immersive.^^
In any case, the stuff with relocating limbs and jamming weapons and all that could become rather irritating, if they overdo it. Also, a coop mode would be awesome.
Coop is always a great idea, if it's done well and can not only be played via LAN (but also via WAN)
I don't think the game wants to be realistic, only immersive.
very good point indeed.
The game will be great anyway
You can fix a broken engine in Operation Flashpoint as well, and that is just a click. It was really cool to stand between 2 repair trucks in multiplayer, people had to shoot the trucks before you could not "insta-repair" anymore ;)
Does this make a game "immersive"? I think it's just an adventure element (use repair kit with jeep)
