Captain Rainbow (Wii): Birdo and her ... joystick

It's hard to write this without laughing, seriously. But let me explain: The development studio Skip, which has also been responsible for the lovely, weird and (in my opinion) under-rated title Chibi-Robo for the Gamecube, has released a new game for the Nintendo Wii on the Japanese market. And we are not very sure about if it will eventually be shipped to other regions of the world as well. Probably it will be released in Europe, but we are specifically skeptical about a release in America. This is firstly due to its absurd storyline and secondly due to some content, which is unusually explicit.

So what is it all about? You are Captain Rainbow (this is also the name of the game), a superhero completely down on his luck, and you are for some reason sent to a mysterious island. You should feel at home on this island, actually, because its inhabitants are also down on their luck. And here's the catch: They are all Nintendo characters. If the names Tracy, Lip or Ossan ring a bell, then you may now consider yourself an official nerd. If not, you can find out more about them here. But one of the characters many people might actually really know: Birdo. And this is where the explicit content enters the stage.

There has been some dispute about Birdo over the years, mainly because of her gender. See? I used the word "her", but if I am honest: I cannot be sure if this is right. When Birdo had its debut in Super Mario Bros. 2, it was introduced as a male dinosaur who believes that he is female. And since then, nobody has ever been really sure what Birdo actually is. Apparently Skip found that pretty funny and now they are using it in Captain Rainbow. Not only are several Japanese trailers for the game spoken by Birdo from the off with a distinctly male voice.

As GameLife point out, in one of their first sessions with the game they had to free Birdo from prison. The reason for this being as follows: Birdo is arrested by a policeman after leaving a public toilet. The accusation is: Birdo used the ladies' toilet although being obviously male. This is where you come in. Birdo now asks you to go to her/his/its (it's so damn hard to avoid using pronouns) home and to find the ultimate evidence for her/him/it being actually female. You do so, and as you enter the house, you hear a buzzing noise from under the pillow on the bed. The pillow is vibrating. As you lift it, the vibrating and buzzing item is censored and cannot be seen, but your character says the words: "Proof that the owner is a woman." When you give the thing to the policeman, it is regarded as ultimate evidence and Birdo is freed.

Wait: Did Nintendo honestly just publish a game with a vibrator in it? Yes, they did. Mad World.

Birdo is the most curious character in Nintendo's line-up - never liked her ...or him?

Without going into to much detail, but I'm sure that a dildo can't be the ultimate proof...sometime somewhere, someone will...*caugh*

I'm sure it was an electric hair curler or something, and you just have a dirty mind.
