War of Opening Cinematics: Blizzard vs. Mythic

War of Opening Cinematics: Blizzard vs. Mythic

warhammer online.jpg
Germany —

We at GamersGlobal hereby declare the war of opening cinematics open.

In the left corner of the ring stands the contestant sponsored by Mythic Entertainment: raw and big-scale fighting will be unleashed by him. With the united power of Dark Elves, Greenskins, Dwarves and what else have you in the Warhammer universe this opening cinematic outlines what Warhammer Online will be about: bringing Warhammer to life, with all its many characteristics. There is a golden rule to opening cinematics: in the end, there must be a very big surprise, a blowoff. This trailer makes no exception.

In the right corner of the ring stands the titleholder sponsored by Blizzard Entertainment, planning to unleash the Wrath of the Lich King. Looking into his blue eyes, you can certainly tell that he rests rather self-assured, knowing that the opening cinematics that came before his reign were always a blast. Not even the voice of his long since slain father King Menethil II. inside his head that is reminding him of virtues a king should have while leading his armies into a battle can stop him from summoning a very big thing at the end of the one-man show trailer, thereby also not breaking the golden rules of opening cinematics.

Tell us which cinematic you liked better. I think that my vote counts for Warhammer Online.

WAR wins. The trailer at least made me regret that it'll cost a monthly fee, although I was somewhat disappointed that there was no Bloodthirster in the trailer. You can't have everything, I suppose.

Just for your information:
That "big thing a the end" is called a frost wyrm and is essentially an undead dreagon. Speculation from the beta has it that this special frost wyrm is called Sindragosa since there are some screenshots where you can see it next to Arthas.

I haven't seen the Warhammer opening cinematic but I'm already a bit disappointed by the cinematic from Wrath of the Lich King. Sure it looks great and the story is tells is great - I particularly like the part that everything the old king has hoped for his son has come true .... in a twisted and sinister way. What annoys me is that you don't see any involvement of Horde and Alliance in the cinematics - Arthas could for example overlook a cliff where Horde zeppelins and Alliance ships arive.
In the end it probably comes down to your own taste.
