New racing game: FuelNew racing game: Fuel
Last updated on August 19, 2008 - 21:30.
Codemasters announced they will be the worldwide publisher of Fuel, a new racing game, which is developed by Bordeaux based developer Asobo Studios. Fuel will have sandbox aspects--that's actually not a special thing--but the world, where the game takes place is outright huge. The developers provide you with more than 14.000 square kilometers to discover. They developed the game's engine for four years. The game is set in an alternate time line where big parts of the globe have been radically altered by devastating climate changes. Gas prices are through the roof, so the goal of these races is to win more gasoline (hence the name Fuel). The world is promised to be truly open, so that you could drive seamlessly from one climate zone to the next. In the video, provided with the press release, you could see some really great weather effects, for example the tornado depicted in the image above. You can find the video in standard quality here. Maybe later they will also have the HD version.

Heard about this the first time today, but after seeing the video, I'm psyched, it sound like some maniac was creating a cross-bread between Codemasters Dirt and Mad Max, which would be awesome.
Fuel looks and sounds boring to me. Racing to earn fuel? I don't know ...
Well, I guess then that I only find this so intriguing because I'm big into racing games, or a special kind of racing games at least. More arcade then simulation (I just find it more rewarding).
Just driving around in an open world sounds fantastic to me, but I can understand that it would bore other people out of their skull. Driving for miles and miles on the rural roads in San Andreas was immense fun for me, I hope they do this right.
I'm currently playing DiRT for the first time, and it rocks. Which is why FUEL sounds like a very good thing to me.
