Alan Wake is still awake, says Remedy (Update!)Alan Wake is still awake, says Remedy (Update!)
Last updated on August 18, 2008 - 17:58.
For those of you who have wondered why developer Remedy isn't listed for this year's Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany: Don't despair. Your fear that Alan Wake has been cancelled since long without Remedy letting the gamers know about it is not justified, because this morning a very short update has been posted on the official forum. Seriously, yes, we're still here and working hard on getting Alan Wake for you to enjoy. Sure, we've been in development for a long time and if everything had gone perfectly smoothly there probably would be a game out for you guys to play already. But designing a completely new game can be hard, and sometimes you need to take a detour to find the best route forward. We want to entertain you guys in the best possible way and our team is putting in every effort possible in order for that to happen. That is the way Remedy wants to do things. I'm sure you will enjoy Alan Wake when we're done. Alan Wake was first announced at E3 2005 (yes, that's rather long ago) and its gameplay is centered around darkness and light. The main weapons are light sources with which one can harm the dark-forces (the enemies) that are - how could it be any different - vulnerable to light. "Armed" with a flashlight being one of his best weapons, Wake lights his way through the dark free-roam world similar to the Grand Theft Auto series or the new Alone in the Dark. Remedy promised that "driving will also be an integral part of the game." Another big promise from them was that the story, like in their Max Payne series, would be very intense and gripping Although Remedy are not at the Games Convention, there is still hope left that publisher Microsoft (who will attend the Convention, although there is no MS press conference) might show some new footage of the game behind closed doors. The forum post coming so shortly before the Convention might be a subtle hint to that. But then again: That's just us guessing. Alan Wake is there, we just can't see him yet. In the words of Fox Mulder: We need to believe.

Hmm, what now? Our news focus is a bit different, yours is on game mechanics, mine on the Games Convention and speculations about new footage.
I don't know. I wish we would have a <User XX> is currently working on <headline of article> feature on GamersGlobal. Dreams ...
That would be a very nice feature, but is not easily implemented. I have an idea that could solve this problem, but it would mean serious rewiring of the data structure the news are posted in. So it's on the list for the 1.0 version of gamersglobal.com ...
I'm still looking forward to the game. The developers at Remedy Entertainement are talented, they could show this with Max Payne I + II. But they really have to show new videos, screenshots etc. as soon as possible or people will slowly forget about Alan Wake.
