Quintuple Evil: More Overlords are coming for youQuintuple Evil: More Overlords are coming for you

If you had fun with Overlord, an action/strategy/adventure-game from the year 2007 that didn't take itself too serious, that dared to make a lot of fun of traditional fantasy settings (Mr. Tolkien probably wouldn't have been amused) and that gave you the objective to restore your kingdom as the Overlord, bringing destruction upon the land with your minions and solving puzzles on the way (it was actually a lot like Nintendo's Pikmin, but way more evil), than this might be some good news for you. New installments of the franchise are on the way for XBox 360, PS3, PC, Nintendo Wii and for the Nintendo DS as well. Overlord II will see a release for PC, XBox 360 and PS3 and is in development at the dutch Triumph Studios, which have also been responsible for the first game in the series. The setting however will not inspired by fantasy again (there is not much left in the realm of fantasy they didn't yet make fun of) but it will be about the Overlord fighting against an empire inspired by the Romans. The plan is, of course, that it will be better looking and new features are also going to be implemented: you will now be able to ride beasts, use siege equipment and to bring down buildings. Triumph Studios also say that the AI of your minions will be much improved in the new game. And if Overlord was not evil enough for you yet, help is on the way. We took the critique to heart that Overlord was not evil enough, with some of the choices offered as between good and evil. Now the choices are between lawful evil and chaotic evil, which usually translates to either enslaving the population or all-out scorched earth. Decisions, decisions. Overlord: Dark Legends is a prequel to the first Overlord, giving you control of a young evil Overlord who is trying to find his inner hatred. The game will be released for the Nintendo Wii, complete with motion controls for your minions. One special feature will for example be that you can shake some of your creatures to turn them into explosive living missiles. Much will depend on how well these motion controls can be handled. Climax Studios are the ones responsible for developing the game, that is going to be set in a fairy tale setting. Climax Studios are also developing Overlord: Minions for the Nintendo DS currently. The gameplay mechanics will be different and downscaled in this game, only letting you control "Special Farces" (no, this is not a spelling mistake) that consist of different minions. You as the Overlord will then control those obedient creatures with the touch screen and with tactical strategies to help them fight against human-dragon hybrids. So you simply can't escape the Overlord in 2009. If that's a good thing, we don't yet know.

I liked Overlord...for about 5 hours, then I got really bored with it, it just repeated the same game mechanics way too often. I'm not going to buy a second game, it's just more of the same in my eyes.
The SP campaign was a bit tedious, and repetitive, I gotta agree. The multiplayer mode was worse though: simply unplayable.
Wait what...there was a multiplayer mode? I never got that far, must have ignored it, I'm not big into MP.
At least for the Xbox 360 there was a multiplayer mode.
