Far Cry meets Shakespeare: The SturmModFar Cry meets Shakespeare: The SturmMod
Last updated on August 14, 2008 - 20:06.
What happens if a 17th century theater play is transfered into a 21st century video game? Projekt A.R.I.E.L. (ARTificial Research in Electronical Life) proudly presents the Far Cry SturmMod. The mod is part of a theater / media arts production done in summer 2008 as a project of students of the scenical arts at the University of Hildesheim, Germany. It provides an environment in which the places and actions described by William Shakespeare in his play "The Tempest" (German translation: "Der Sturm") can be visited, explored, experienced and reflected by the player. The mod was performed live in the Projekt A.R.I.E.L. production as can be seen here. More content can be found on the homepage (in German only). Please read the release notes (info.txt) after having downloaded the mod in order to learn how to set it all up. If you are not familiar with the background of the play, it is recommended that you check on the story first (provided in the story.txt file). I have to say I'm still a bit uncertain on what this project is trying to bring together, how can you "perform a Mod"? But I'm sure Shakespeare would love to see one of his greatest plays being compressed into a "story.txt" :-) Sorry that was just to good.
I'm actually glad to see that someone is using GamersGlobal to promote a project.
The mod was performed on two levels: First: I was playing it on my pc and it was projected on a screen... Second: another performer commented on what was to see and was able to "go into the island" as the screen was divided in many parts... The video game offered many opportunities to toy with in combination with theatre performance as it could be a stage for the actions of the other performer as well as switching to a point of view of the performer playing the mod (like taking over a role of one of the characters, in this case Caliban). If you are interested to see more, check out the pics on the ModDB - Site and visit it regularly because we are planning to release a teaser of our "mod performance" there in the next weeks... ;)
And I'm sure that Shakespeare would love to see one of his greatest plays being transfered into the interactiveness of a video game... after all you can think of him as the programmer of his time, the Globe theatre being his graphics engine and "The Tempest" the last piece of code he wrote... ;)

Ok now you're talking :-)
Thank you for elaborating, that was the part I was interested in. Make sure to keep the GamersGlobal Community in the loop with any updates on the project.
Very interesting news, very interesting mod! +10 EXP!
Thank you for the Update :-)
