Braid: Now available via XBox Live ArcadeBraid: Now available via XBox Live Arcade

If you, fellow reader, have never heard about the game Braid before, than you are most probably not very much into independent games. Braid is one of those indie games, and it has already won lots of innovation prices before having even been released. When you look at it, you could easily begin to think that it is just another of those platformers in 2D trying to be succesful with its retro touch. You would be wrong. In many previews it has already been praised for its visual style and its time manipulation feature (which is much more a core gameplay element than it has ever been in Sands of Time, Timeshift, Max Payne or what have you). And it could easily be one of those games that will be called art very soon, standing next to ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami and the like. And now it is available for download on XBox Live Arcade for 1200 Microsoft points ($15). Which makes it one of the most expensive games on XBLA. But apparently it seems to be worth it, judging from the 10/10 that Eurogamer awarded it with. The game will also see a release on the PC in 2008, but no release date has yet been set. They'd better make it quick, because I (a poor soul without an XBox 360) simply can't wait.

I hope they'll release the PC version as soon as possible, I simply can't wait for it any longer!!!
Well, then there's already two of us. ;)
This game is unbelievable. I haven't played such an innovative game in a decade. And the music is simply beautiful as well as the art style.
Leonard, you REALLY don't make the waiting time till the PC version is released much easier. ;)
So what exactly is it? It's listed with a pretty impressive 92 on metacitic, but I have no idea what the game is about. When I try to google for pictures of it, I only get weird hair knots (who names a game braid anyway?) and the picture above looks like a VGA-version of Donkey Kong, so if someone 'who is in the know' could fill me in on the hype, I would appreciate it :-)
I actually wanted to write an own review of Braid. But the guys over at Xbox 360 Fanboy did such a fabulous job that I gave up on the idea. The article is very much worth reading and gives a good overview on Braid and what the fuss is all about all in a short but striking and precise nutshell.
I agree, good article. Helps to understand what the game is all about.
Since this sparks my interested, I looked around for more and found this awesome Article at Gamasutra about the creation process of the art style.
Really interesting. I always wondered how two guys alone can come up with such an artful game held in water colors. Awesome read, thanks.
I played through it by now (at least I think I have). There's only one word for the last puzzle that completes the story: .
so thats 1 minus 1, right?
